This is a plugin for Prestools Suite, the free mass editing script for Prestashop 1.5 and higher and Thirty Bees. In the free version you can see which images and directories would be deleted. After installing this product you will be able to delete them all at once.
Prestashop sometimes is sloppy with removing images and their directories. That can result in large numbers of product images that are no longer used. This will take up diskspace and may cause you to pay more for hosting than needed. It will also make backups unnecessary big. Image Cleanup checks for them and gives you the opportunity to delete them.
Image Cleanup has a special page in the Prestools menu that looks so:
At the top of the page you see a button to empty the image cache. That concerns temporary files and is not of interest here. We go for the second part of the page.
After you press the button "gather unused product images" the system starts collecting them. If you have many images this can take a long time. As this function has a timeout after 5 minutes you may need to press this button several times before it is finished.
When it is finished you see the unused images and empty directories below the main page in an iframe:
In the count only the main image is counted. The derived images - like 1234-small-default.jpg - are not counted separately.
The "Delete Unused Images" button will now become activated and you can delete the images. A copy of the main version of each image (like 1234.jpg) will be preserved in the /img/archive directory.
